Our first Warrior Fund recipient is a tough young lady named Brooklynn Shorter. She has been fighting the fight since February. We are all very proud of her. Please take the time to read her mom’s update of her fight against Stage 4 glioma. Please read her story and watch her video, and most importantly, keep her in your prayers!

Brooklynn has been experiencing headaches since May last year. In late January, she suffered a severe headache that lasted for two weeks, causing disorientation and incoherent speech. We visited the emergency room four times and consulted her primary care provider, but felt that our concerns were being dismissed. After hearing a radio advertisement for Desert Pain and Spine, I reached out to them and was relieved that they listened  and ordered an MRI. This morning's MRI results prompted an immediate referral to the ER and subsequently to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake. The diagnosis revealed a brain tumor.

The glioma, a type of cancer, has been classified as a grade 4,  a more aggressive tumor that is suspected to have spread to her spine.

Brooklynn completed all of her radiation therapy. We had a consultation with her oncologist and received somewhat encouraging news. Although it's a little hard to explain, I'll attempt. Her official diagnosis was diffuse midline glioma h3 k27. Today, we discovered that the tumor also possesses a gene mutation known as Braf v600e, which provides us with additional treatment options targeting this specific mutation. The oncologist also believes there is a good possibility to get Brooklynn into a phase 2 clinical trial.
